The season

The monsoon.

Four months of the most beautiful and the most difficult weather in India. What the house does so that the rain is something you watch through the window.

I

Umbrellas, at the door

From June to September, every door is opened under an umbrella — the house’s large one, held over you from the porch to the seat.

II

A road chosen for the water

The sarathi knows which underpasses fill — Milan, Andheri, Hindmata, King’s Circle — and chooses the road by the morning’s rain, not the map’s first guess.

III

A towel, dry socks, a dry cabin

A fresh towel in the car, the cabin dry, the windows clear, the mats changed when they are wet.

IV

The ghat in the rain

Lonavala and Malshej are at their most beautiful and their slowest. The house allows more time on the expressway in heavy rain and never drives a ghat in a red warning.

When the city stops

On the few days a year Mumbai floods and the authorities ask people to stay in, the house says so plainly, moves your journey without charge, and does not send a car into water to keep an appointment.

Reserve your carRain or not, the umbrella comes with the car.

Questions guests ask

Is it safe to travel in Mumbai during the monsoon?
On most days, yes, with a driver who knows which roads fill. On the few flood days when authorities ask people to stay in, the house moves your journey without charge.
Which areas of Mumbai flood in the rain?
Low underpasses and junctions such as the Milan and Andheri subways, Hindmata and King’s Circle fill first; the sarathi routes around them by the morning’s rain.
