Beyond the city

Beautiful places, a drive from Mumbai.

Hill stations in the cloud, lakes beneath old forts, vineyards, waterfalls and the Konkan coast — all a morning’s drive from Mumbai. Here they are with the season that suits each, and the car that takes you.

Closer, and quieter

KarjatAbout 60 km: rivers, farm stays and the first green of the monsoon. A day, or a night.
BhandardaraAbout 165 km: the lake, Arthur’s Seat and the Randha falls, and the Sahyadri’s highest peak, Kalsubai, above it.
Malshej GhatAbout 130 km: a pass of waterfalls and cloud in the monsoon, and flamingos in the winter.
Pawna and LohagadAbout 100–110 km: the lake beneath the forts, for an evening by the water.
KoladAbout 110 km: the Kundalika river, between June and March.

Any of them by the day or with nights away: the sarathi’s stay and meals are the house’s concern, never yours. Distances are by road from central Mumbai and vary with the start.
