Private aviation

The car is there when the wheels are.

A private aircraft does not land at a published time. It lands at a slot that moved twice that morning, at a terminal most Mumbai drivers have never found, and its passenger has usually been met everywhere else in the world by someone who was told the block time. The house works to the block time. The flight office, the charter operator or the principal’s own assistant sends the tail number and the slot; the house sends back the sarathi’s name, the car and its number, and is at the General Aviation terminal before the aircraft is on blocks — with the wait, however the slot moves, already inside the figure.

I

The General Aviation terminal

Private and charter aircraft at Mumbai use the General Aviation terminal on the old airport side, apart from Terminals 1 and 2, with its own gate, its own immigration and customs for international arrivals, and its own kerb. Your sarathi knows the gate the car is cleared to, waits where the terminal allows, and brings the car up when the passenger is through — minutes, not the hour of T2.

II

Working to the block time

Tell the house the tail number and the estimated time on blocks; a change of slot is one message, and the car re-times at no charge. Waiting runs from the aircraft’s arrival on blocks and is inside the figure for two full hours; the house does not count the hours before, when the slot was still moving.

III

Juhu, and the helicopters

For a helicopter transfer from Juhu aerodrome — to Pune, Lonavala, a wedding beyond the city — the house delivers to the aerodrome gate at the briefed time and meets the return. Juhu to the Taj or the Oberoi is thirty to fifty minutes; to BKC twenty.

Inside every written figure: the car, your sarathi, fuel, every toll, parking at both ends and GST. Nothing is added on the day, and no meter runs.

For the flight office and the charter operator

The house works the way an FBO works: one line on WhatsApp that answers in writing, the confirmation copied to the office and the passenger, the sarathi’s photograph and the car’s number the evening before, a written figure before the car moves and a monthly statement if the office wants one. The house does not pay for introductions and does not quote the office one figure and the passenger another; see the page for the desk, which says the same thing to a hotel.

The car

For a principal and an assistant with cases, the Mercedes S-Class or the Range Rover; for a party of four with luggage, the Vellfire, whose sliding door is kind on an apron kerb; for a crew, the Innova Hycross. A Maybach, a Rolls-Royce or a convoy of one marque by arrangement, on notice. Figures by class on the rate card, written to the office before the aircraft departs.

Onward

From the General Aviation terminal to South Mumbai is an hour by the Sea Link and the Coastal Road, to BKC twenty minutes, to a commercial departure at Terminal 2 fifteen. The house joins a private arrival to a commercial connection, a hotel, a meeting or the Expressway to Pune as one written journey.

Write to the house with a tail numberTail number, date, estimated time on blocks, where to. The figure follows in writing.
