By arrangement · Rolls-Royce Ghost

The Ghost, arranged.

The Ghost is the Rolls-Royce for a guest who would rather not make an entrance and makes one anyway. Smaller than the Phantom, quicker, quieter than almost anything else on a Mumbai road, it is the car the house proposes for a dinner that matters, a reception, an anniversary — and for the guest who wants a Rolls-Royce for the evening rather than for the photographs.

I

Who sits where

Two in the rear in comfort; three for a short journey across town. Your sarathi in front beside the car's chauffeur.

II

Luggage

Two large cases in the boot, or three cabin bags.

III

The occasion

A reception; an anniversary dinner; a guest of honour for an evening; a wedding where the Phantom is already taken.

In the house's hands

A current Ghost, black or white where it can be had, confirmed with photographs before anything is held. The cabin set as you ask — temperature, music or none — and a sarathi in front who knows that this is a car for arriving composed.

By arrangement is the house's phrase for a car it does not keep on call and will not pretend to. Thirty days lets the house find the right one, see its registration, its insurance and the permission that lets it carry a guest that day, meet the chauffeur who comes with it, and send you photographs of the exact car before anything is held. A deposit holds the car; the balance is settled seventy-two hours before the journey, as set out in your written confirmation. Your sarathi rides with you; the car's own chauffeur drives.

The figure

Written for the occasion — the car, its chauffeur, your sarathi, fuel, tolls, parking and GST in one line — once the house has found the car and seen it. There is no rate card for a car like this, because the day and the car decide; what is written does not move. If thirty days is not what you have, say so: the house tells you plainly what is possible, and never sends something else and hopes.

If the date is close

Tell the house what you have in mind and when. Where the car cannot be found in time, the house says so at once and proposes the nearest thing it can stand behind — a Phantom, or a Mercedes-Maybach, where a Ghost cannot be had — written at the Marque figure, with the same sarathi and the same care.

Ask the house for the GhostChoose Marque, name the car, give the date. The house replies in writing.

Questions guests ask

What is the difference between the Ghost and the Phantom for a wedding?
The Phantom is the larger, grander car and the one most brides ask for by name; the Ghost is the quieter, more private Rolls-Royce. Both are arranged the same way; the house tells you which can be had for your date.
How far ahead should I ask?
Thirty days gives the house the pick of cars in the season; closer than that, the house tells you honestly what is possible.
Can I keep the Ghost for the whole evening?
Yes — written for the hours you need, with the same chauffeur and sarathi from the first door to the last.
