Airport → South Mumbai

The long way home, made short.

South Mumbai is the farthest part of the city from its airport and the part most worth arriving in properly. The road has changed: the Sea Link, then the Coastal Road, take a car from Terminal 2 to Marine Drive in an hour when the city allows it, past the sea the whole way down. Your sarathi knows when the Coastal Road is the answer and when the old road through Worli and Haji Ali is quicker, and he decides it for the hour you land, not from a map drawn at noon.

I

The road

Terminal 2 or 1 to the Western Express Highway, the Bandra–Worli Sea Link, the Coastal Road to Marine Drive, and down into Nariman Point, Colaba and Cuffe Parade; or off at Breach Candy and Pedder Road for Malabar Hill and Altamount Road. Sixty to ninety minutes; less at dawn and after eleven at night.

II

The doors you are going to

The Taj Mahal Palace, the Oberoi and the Trident, the clubs of Churchgate and Colaba, the towers of Cuffe Parade, the old buildings of Malabar Hill with lanes a large car must take slowly. Your sarathi knows the porte-cochères and the gates, and the car is the right size for the lane.

III

After dark

South Mumbai after eleven is a different, quieter road, and the house’s after-dark order applies: a sarathi you can name, a route that is yours, someone you choose kept informed, and the car at your door until you are inside. See after dark.

The wait is inside the figure ninety minutes after a domestic landing, two full hours after an international one, counted from the moment the aircraft reaches the gate; the flight tracked from the city it leaves; the airport parking for the whole of that wait paid by the house. How the house waits →

Which car

For one or two guests the Innova Hycross hybrid, or the Toyota Camry hybrid of the Executive class if a lower car is wanted for the old lanes; for a family the Carnival; for an arrival at the Taj or the Oberoi that should look like one, an S-Class or a Range Rover written for the journey. The figures by zone are on the rate card — South Mumbai is its own zone, and the figure is written before you fly.

Inside every written figure: the car, your sarathi, fuel, every toll, parking at both ends and GST. Nothing is added on the day, and no meter runs.

Reserve the car to South MumbaiFlight number and the address. The figure is written before you fly.

Questions guests ask

How long does Mumbai Airport to Colaba take?
Sixty to ninety minutes by the Sea Link and the Coastal Road, depending on the hour; about an hour at dawn or late at night.
Is the Sea Link toll included?
Every toll — the Sea Link and any other — and the airport parking for the complimentary wait are inside the written figure.
Do you drop at the Taj Mahal Palace and the Oberoi?
At the door, under the porte-cochère, with the cases handed to the hotel. See the house’s pages for the Taj and the Oberoi.
Can a large car reach Malabar Hill’s lanes?
The Innova and the Camry can; for the narrowest lanes the house says so and sends the right car. Your sarathi knows the gates.
Is the fare different for South Mumbai?
It is its own zone on the rate card — one figure, written before you fly, with nothing added on the road.
